It is located just three miles northwest of the central business district of Tuscaloosa. The airport no longer has commercial air service but it remains a general aviation airport with close to 60,000 operations each year. The airport also serves at least ten surrounding counties. It is maintained by a three-man grounds crew and one equipment mechanic. The Tuscaloosa Regional Airport currently has two fixed based operators (Bama Air and Dixie Air), a flight school and a car rental facility located onsite (Avis Car & Truck Rentals). The airport hosts annual airshows feauturing hours of jam-packed flying activities daily and static displays on the ground of over 70 years of aviation history. Past performers include the US Navy Blue Angels, US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, Firebirds Xtreme Aerobatic Team and more.
