“By the Bedroom” vs. “By the Apartment” Renting In Tuscaloosa
 

Some Apartment communities in Tuscaloosa are offered “by the bedroom” bust most are “by the apartment” rental option.  If you choose the latter apartment lease arrangement, then you are completely responsible for all the rent, utility bills and apartment upkeep. This includes everyone living in the apartment. But if you choose the “By the Bedroom” arrangement, you are only responsible for your bedroom, bathroom, and common areas.

Benefits of  “By the Bedroom” include not being responsible for your roommate's actions, or poor judgment, such as not meeting lease requirements or paying late.  The downside is that you pay a premium for this less risky rental option.

In contrast, if you choose the less expensive “by the apartment” option, then you are at risk for all rent, utility bills, and upkeep of the entire apartment, including your roommate's.  Your responsibility is all-inclusive, regardless of how you and your roommate may have agreed to split expenses.  If he/she ends up owing for back rent or repairs, you're on the hook.
